CO-Chairs

Iris Sanchez:

Co-chair

Hello, my name is Iris Sanchez and I am a senior majoring in Sociology. For the 2013-2014 academic year, I took the responsibility as co-chair for Hermanas Unidas de SFSU I am also secretary . As a Chicana woman, being part of this wonderful organization has given me the opportunity to find a home-away-from-home like any young woman wishes to find as they leave home to find themselves in the "real world."  With the help from my Hermanas and following our three pillars: academics, community service, and collegial networking, I have grown into a well educated and strong individual. Being part of Hermanas Unidas has taught me the importance of receiving an education, keeping in mind to always give back to your community and never forget where you came from, especially as a Chicana woman. It has taught me the importance of Hermandad and reminded to always believe in myself and to keep in mind that with the "poder of la mujer" anything is possible.

Danette Dominguez:

Co-chair

Hello, my name is Danette Dominguez. I am a fourth year student at the beautiful campus of San Francisco State University trying to achieve my BA in Business Accounting. I come from the city of Los Angeles born in East LA but moved to Baldwin Park. I come from a Salvadorian and Spanish background. I am first generation going to a University trying to strive for the best to make my family proud of what I can achieve. The first two years of college I had forgotten who I was and where I came from but through Hermanas Unidas I found my way back home. These beautiful women took me in with hands wide open without any judgments they brought me back up to my feet and due to there encouragement I decided to take continue as a steering member in HaU. Last Year I took on Public Relations and this year I can proudly say I am Co-chair and Treasure of HaU. As a co-chair I oversee all events hosted by the other girls in steering, input my ideas and try to help them strive for there goals. As a treasure I manage our money and give budgets. I have never felt more at home till now I was finally reminded why I came to college to achieve higher education and not to only receive this education for ourselves but for our people.  Since we are Latina women people try to reject who we are and what we are capable of doing. Lets strive for the best, "Poder de la mujer!"
